Man who published a book about the life of Jesus is in prison for plagiarism

MANHATTAN, Kan.

(AP) A Kansas man who wrote a book that described Jesus as a “son of God” is in jail for plagiarizing, court documents show.

Manuel Castillo, 57, of Kearney was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to violating Kansas law against unauthorized use of copyright and other trade secrets.

He also agreed to pay $10,000 in fines and restitution.

Prosecutors said Castillo stole material from the book “The Life and Death of Jesus” that was published by Simon and Schuster.

The book details Jesus’ life, including his birth and ministry.

Prosecutors also said the book’s publisher used a fictional account of Jesus in the book.
